Methyl silicone oil is a linear polysiloxane with two methyl and three methyl siloxane terminals on silicon. It's liquid at room temperature. The structure is as follows:

Methylsilicone oil is generally colorless, tasteless, non-toxic, non-volatile liquid, insoluble in water, methanol, ethylene glycol, benzene, dimethyl ether, carbon tetrachloride or kerosene, slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol and butanol.Because of the characteristics of small intermolecular force, molecular chain helix, organic group free rotation, methylsilicone oil is widely used in daily chemical industry, machinery, electrical, textile, coating, medicine, food and other industries, with good dispersion, lubrication, high and low temperature resistance, weather resistance, radiation resistance.Resistance, high flash point, low surface tension and physiological inertness.

Methylsilicone oil has many special properties:

    1. Good heat resistance

Because the backbone of silicone oil molecules is composed of -Si-O-Si bonds, its structure is similar to inorganic polymers, with high bond energy and excellent heat resistance.

    2. Good oxidation stability and weather resistance

    3. Good electrical insulation

Silicone oil has good dielectric properties, and its electrical properties do not change much with temperature and cycle times. The permittivity decreases with the increase of temperature, but the change is small. The power factor of silicone oil is low and increases with increasing temperature, but is independent of frequency. The volume resistance decreases with increasing temperature.

    4. Good hydrophobicity

Although the silicone oil backbone is composed of the polar bond Si-O, the non-polar alkyl groups on the side chains are arranged outwards, preventing water molecules from entering the interior and acting as hydrophobic. The interfacial tension of silicone oil on water is about 42 dane/cm.When the silicone oil diffuses across the glass, the contact Angle of the silicone oil is about 103°, which is comparable to that of paraffin wax, due to its water-repellent properties.

    5. Small viscosity-temperature coefficient

The viscosity of silicone oil is low and does not change much with temperature, which is related to the helical structure of silicone oil molecules.Silicone oil has the highest viscosity and temperature among all kinds of liquid lubricants. This characteristic of silicone oil is of great significance for damping devices.

    6. High compressibility

Silicone oil has a high compression resistance due to its helical structure and large intermolecular distance. The silicone oil using this characteristic can be used as a liquid spring, and the volume can be greatly reduced compared with the mechanical spring.

    7. Low surface tension

Low surface tension is characteristic of silicone oil.Low surface tension indicates that silicone oil has a high surface activity, so silicone oil has excellent defoaming properties, defoaming properties, isolation from other substances and lubrication properties.

    8. Non-toxic, tasteless and physiological inertia

From a physiological standpoint, siloxane polymers are one of the least active compounds known.Dimethylsiloxane oil is lazy for organisms and does not reject animals. Therefore, it is widely used in surgery, internal medicine, medicine, food, cosmetics and other fields.

    9. Good lubricity

Silicone oil as a lubricant has high flash point, low freezing point, good thermal stability, viscosity changes with temperature, non-corrosive metal, no adverse effect on rubber, plastic, coating, organic coating film, low surface tension, easy to spread on the metal surface and other excellent properties. In order to improve the lubricity of silicone oil steel to steel, lubrication additives mixed with silicone oil can be added. The lubrication properties of silicone oil can be greatly improved by introducing chlorophenyl or replacing dimethyl with trifluoropropyl methyl.
